Mount Sima and the ski chalet
Posted on March 08, 2005 at 1:00 AM in Events
Did we ever get excited when we started to hear about the proposal to build a permanent ski chalet at Mount Sima. There is talk of a 2-story chalet at the bottom of the hill. It should definitely be a little more comfortable than the portables they have now, and create a more social atmosphere at the hill.
We’re looking forward the Lounge (the Chilkoot Lounge maybe?), something with big windows and a great view of the hill, where you can sit nice and warm with a group of friends watching all of the action on the hill. Somewhere to sit and have a nice cold glass of beer from the bar after a great day on the hill. It sounds so good maybe we’ll head out to the hill this weekend to see where it would be best built in our own minds.
This weekend will be a great weekend to get out to the hill. It’s the last weekend for the ski hill and the Soulstice Music Society is working with the Great Northern Ski Society, Fresh Traxx Snowboarding Club and Yukon Ski Patrol to put on SIMAPALOOZA again this year.
They are looking for over a thousand people to come out this year for competitions on the hill and some great acts at the beer gardens.
SIMAPALOOZA will run from 10:00 to 6:00 on Saturday. The competitions start at 1:00, the hill closes at 4:30 and beer gardens and entertainment goes until 6:00.
The line-up for SIMAPALOOZA 2005 includes a medley of DJ’s from the United DJ’s of Yukon, including DJKJ, DJ Steve-e-Wunda, DJ Synapse, DJ Geo, DJ House Arrest, DJ Addie, and Atrocity.
In addition, powerhouse performances by Yukon heavy hitters, Nemesis (Eric Ireland, Mike Jones, Yves Paradis, Etienne Gerrard), Dec and the A’s (Declan O’Donovan, Adriane Bergman) Hip Hop acts, K-09, and DJ House Arrest with Dedicado and a special musical performance by Rick Sward (and friends) as well as Gisli Balzar and Donkeysmell member, Denis Lacroix, be doing a set.
Don’t miss it!
